LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Berry College Volleyball team dropped their final game of the Transylvania Tournament to the College of Saint Benedict Bennies on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The first set was a tight one as the Vikings took an early 9-7 lead with a kill and block by
Madie Whitehead. The Bennies came right back to take a 10-9 lead but the Vikings rallied as they went on a run to go up 17-13 with kills from
Maddie Dahl and
Keira Kruk as well as an ace from
Ava Brovet. The Vikings would then push their advantage to 20-16 with another kill from Whitehead set up by Brovet. The Bennies came storming back though as they went up 23-20. Later the Bennies led 24-21 but the Vikings fought to keep the set alive with another kill from Dahl to make it 24-23 but the Bennies closed out the set 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings looked to respond in the second set as they took an early 6-4 lead but the Bennies would go on to take a 13-9 advantage. The Vikings quickly used a 3-0 run with two kills from
Cali Armstead to get within 13-12 but the Bennies would extend their lead out to 21-17. The Vikings looked for an answer but couldn't find one as they fell 25-18 and trailed 2-0.
The Vikings continued to battle in the third as they took an early 5-2 lead but the Bennies would rally to take a 9-7 lead. The Vikings would answer as later in the set they went on a 4-1 run to go up 15-11 with a kill and ace by Dahl. The Vikings continued to play well as three kills in a row with two from Armstead and one from Brovet pushed their lead to 19-14. The Bennies would come right back to tie the game 19-19. The Vikings looked to stay alive as they answered with two more kills from Brovet and Dahl to go up 22-19. The Bennies weren't having it though as they came back to tie it and then win it 25-23 as the Vikings fell 3-0.
The Vikings were led by eight kills from
Maddie Dahl, five blocks from
Cali Armstead, 29 assists for
Ava Brovet and 15 digs for
Andrea Hurt.
