MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College women's soccer team opened the 2026 regular season with an impressive 6-0 blowout of the LaGrange College Panthers Tuesday evening at Bob Pearson Field.
The win gives the Vikings a 1-0 start, while dropping the Panthers to 0-1.
The team dominated this game from the very beginning, but it wouldn't be until the 23rd minute that they finally got on the board. After some quality scoring chances that were denied by LaGrange goalkeeper Kendall Lewis, Berry finally got on the board with a goal from Abby Morgan that just barely squeaked in the net.
The Vikings were then given a penalty kick at 41:18 thanks to a LaGrange foul inside the penalty area. Heidi Swain took the kick and scored her first career goal to make it a 2-0 game at halftime.
It was in the second half where the Vikings completely blew the game open. Gianna Maimone scored Berry's third goal at 49:09 thanks to a great pass from Laina Engelbart, and Giselle Aitken struck six minutes later to make it 4-0.
Two more freshmen got in on the action with Emily Wagoner and Zoe Graham each finding the back of the net in the 73rd and 85th minute to reach the final score of 6-0.
The Vikings outshot the Panthers 37-4 for the game, including 19-2 in shots on goal. They also had three corner kicks to LaGrange's none and committed just four fouls. Six different players got on the board, but Maimone led the way with one goal and one assist. Kate Hill got the win in goal for Berry by making two saves in 64:34 before being subbed out.
The team returns to action next Tuesday, September 8, for a road contest against Covenant College at 7 p.m.
