MOUNT BERRY, Ga. –
Matthew Vargo has been named the new Assistant Sports Information Director, as announced by Director of Athletics
Dr. Angel Mason and Director of Sports Information & Promotions
Robert Nilsen.
"We're excited to welcome Matthew to our athletic communications team", said Nilsen. "With his skills and experience he will be a great addition to continue to enhance the student-athlete experience at Berry College."
Vargo will assist with all aspects of athletic communication for the Vikings 22 sports.
Vargo joins the department with four years of experience in the sports media world, including spending his previous year as the Sports Information Assistant at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. While there he was responsible for assisting with media coverage for all 24 teams and was the primary statistician for volleyball, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball and softball. He also helped grow and manage the Colonel's social media presence.
Prior to that Vargo served in a few roles for different sports teams and media organizations, including two years as the Athletic Communications Student Manager from 2022-2024 at Susquehanna University where he first began his sports information journey in college athletics. During that time Vargo also gained experience as a Game Day Operations Intern for the Lancaster Stormers and was the Assistant Sports Director for 88.9 WQSU: The Pulse. Before starting at Wilkes University, he also gained experience working as a Studio Host & Producer for the Harrisburg Senators and as the Field Manager & DiamondKast Intern for Perfect Game USA.
A native of Harrisburg, PA Vargo earned a Bacher of Arts in Communications (Sports Media) and a minor in Film Studies at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in 2024.
