Matthew Vargo was named Assistant Sports Information Director in August 2026. He joined the department with four years of experience in the industry, including spending the previous year as the Sports Information Assistant at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. During his time at Wilkes, he was responsible for assisting with media coverage for all 24 teams and was the primary statistician for volleyball, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball and softball. He also helped grow and manage the Colonel's social media presence.
Prior to that, Vargo served in a few roles for different sports teams and media organizations, including two years as a Student Manager of Athletic Communications from 2022-2024 at Susquehanna University, where he first began his sports information journey in college athletics. He also gained experience during that time as a Game Day Operations Intern for the Lancaster Stormers and was the Sports Director for 88.9 WQSU: The Pulse, Susquehanna's student-run radio station.
Before starting at Wilkes, he worked as a Radio Broadcast Associate for the Harrisburg Senators and was a DiamondKast Intern for Perfect Game USA.
A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Matthew earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications (Sports Media) and a minor in Film Studies at Susquehanna University in 2024.
