BELTON, Texas - The Berry College men's tennis team rallied from 3-0 down to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-3 on Friday afternoon on the road.
The Vikings got off to a slow start as they dropped the doubles point. The third doubles team of
Anderson Lambert/Leo Nedkov won 6-4 over Alec Rule/Edgar Mayorga Calva. Despite a strong effort the ones and twos of Aiden Benoulaid/
Jake Chapman and
Xavier Deckard/
Jace Goode both fell 6-4 as May Hardin-Baylor took a 1-0 lead.
Mary Hardin-Baylor then extended their lead as
Aiden Benoualid dropped his match 6-4, 6-3 and Leo Nedkov fell to Alec Rule 6-2, 6-4. Facing a 3-0 deficit the Vikings needed an answer and found it as Goode prevailed at third singles 6-3, 6-4 to get the Vikings their first point and make it 3-1. Lambert then prevailed at fifth singles in a tight match winning 7(7)-6(5), 7-5 to make it 3-2. The Vikings then came from behind in both first singles and sixth singles as both Deckard and Chapman dropped their first sets. Deckard then rallied to win 6(5)-7(7), 6-4, 6-0 to tie the match 3-3. Chapman then rallied to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to clinch a 4-3 win for the Vikings.
The Vikings continue their trip to Texas as they travel to Georgetown to face Southwestern in an SAA match on Saturday, April 4 at 11:00 AM.
