MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings put together a masterclass on their senior day, as they beat Sewanee 11-1 in five innings of work.
The two teams went away quietly in the first inning of action. The Vikings carried their momentum from last night's doubleheader with a 7-run onslaught in the bottom of the second.
Latifa Madesko got the scoring started, with a single to score
Elly Bennett. The wheels fell off from there for the Tigers, as
Kensi Ody would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. An
Ava Fouts single extended the lead to four, as
Katelyn Boman and
Brooke Thompson came home.
A
Lauren Cothern single through the left side of the field scored Fouts, and
Elly Bennett kept the line moving with a double that scored Cothern and
Rachel Runsick. Sewanee finally got out of the inning and plated one run at the top of the third.Â
The party was not done for the Vikings, as Cothern,
Kennedy Moody, and
Rachel Runsick, all grabbed RBIs to make the score 11-1 at the bottom of the fourth.
An empty frame at the top of the fifth led to the game ending in a run-rule, final score was 11-1.Â
The Vikings will be in action next weekend for an important series on the road against Rhodes in Memphis.
