DANVILLE, Ky. - The Berry College softball program got back on the winning track as they snapped a four game losing streak with a commanding 10-1 run rule win over the Centre College Colonels on Sunday afternoon.
Ava Fouts rebounded from a loss yesterday as she picked up the win tossing 5 innings while allowing just one unearned run on four hits while walking four and striking out one.
Rachel Runsick led the offense going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
Needing a win after a doubleheader loss the day before the Vikings jumped out to an early lead in this one as
Erica Bennett got things started with a first inning two out two run single to put the Vikings up 2-0. The Vikings then broke open the game in the top of the secondÂ
Elly Bennett then plated a run on an error with one out in the top of the second to make it 3-0. Three batters latter Fouts came through with an RBI single that scored two runs following an error to push the lead to 5-0.
Kennedy Moody then forced another error as the Vikings built a 6-0 lead.Â
The Colonels looked for an answer in the bottom of the second as they took advantage of an error to make it 6-1. The Vikings then added to their lead in the top of the third as
Brooke Thompson laid down a perfect bunt allowing
Madison Miller to score to make it 7-1. Later in the inning Runsick delivered a sac fly to increase the lead to 8-1. Fouts meanwhile continued to hold the Colonels offense at bay while the offense looked to end things early in the top of the fifth. With two on and nobody out Runsick ripped an RBI single to right to make it 9-1. Two batters later Fouts delvered an RBI groundout to give the Vikings a commanding 10-1 lead as they went on to win in five innings.Â
The Vikings will look to continue their momentum as they travel to Demorest, GA to take on PIedmont on Wednesday,, April 15 with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM.
