Vikings Fall in Nailbiter 4-3 on Senior Day

| By:
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - After yesterday's terrific win against Millsaps, the men were back on court at the Rome Tennis Center to play Rhodes, and to also celebrate senior day. Thank you to seniors and current captains Jake Chapman, Jace Goode, and former captain Aiden Benoualid for leading the team, and we look forward to their graduation from Berry College in a few short months.
After several weeks of honing their doubles skills against tough competition, the Berry men impressed yet again as Jake Chapman / Aiden Benoualid continued their win streak at first doubles with a dominant 6-2 victory. Anderson Lambert / Leo Nedkov at third doubles saw several breaks of serves in a back-and-forth match, but Anderson remained consistent and Leo put on a show at the net for the fans as they broke serve near the end of the match to win 6-3, and to deliver Berry the doubles point.
Berry continued to march forward as Xavier Deckard at sixth singles and Leo Nedkov at fourth singles both secured wins. With Berry up 3-0, they needed just one more singles match to clinch the meet, but it would prove to be difficult as Rhodes battled on. It came down to Jace Goode at third singles and Jake Chapman at first singles as they split sets in their respective matches. Jace Goode continued his tactic of staying aggressive with deep groundstrokes and carefully placed dropshots to move his opponent around, but a few errors on crucial points saw him narrowly lose the match. With 3-3 in the match count, Jake Chapman battled in the third set all the way to the tiebreak, where his endurance paid off as his opponent began to cramp 5-5 in the tiebreak. However, Rhodes' first singles player went for it all and managed to hit a few clutch winners to beat Jake, delivering Berry their first SAA conference season loss in one of the mostly tightly contested series thus far.

Berry College will look to rebound next week when they travel to Texas to play Southwestern and Trinity.
