HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Berry College women's lacrosse team traveled to Hilton Head for a pair of matches during on Monday and Wednesday during spring break. Despite battling hard the Vikings fell to Muhlenberg 22-6 and Swarthmore 18-2.

The Vikings got off to a good start as
Morgan Barton whipped a great pass to
Dani Taraska who finished to put the Vikings up 1-0 inside the first three minutes. The Mules quickly answered to tie it 1-1, but the Vikings responded well as this time Taraska set up
Lillie Swanson to put the Vikings back ahead. The Mules took over from there as they scored five straight goals to close the quarter as the Vikings trailed 7-2. The Vikings looked to rebound in the second with two goals from
Katie Claire Smith and Taraska again to pull within 7-4 but the Mules would answer as they extended their lead lead to 11-4 with 6:36 to go. The Vikings quickly found an answer off the draw control as Barton set up
Katherine Herrero for a goal to pull the Vikings within 11-5. Again the Mules closed out the quarter strong as they took a 14-5 lead at halftime.
The Mules continued their momentum in the third quarter as they scored five unanswered goals to increase their lead to 19-5 at the end of the third. The Vikings would find the scoresheet again to start the fourth as Barton scored her first of the game to make it 19-6. That's all the Vikings offense could muster though as they fell 22-6. Taraska led the offense with two goals and one assist.

The Garnet got off to a quick start as they shutout the Vikings in the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead. The Vikings looked for a response but the Garnet got two more goals to start the second to stretch their lead to 6-0. The Vikings would finally get some offense going with 8:44 to go on a goal by
Lillie Swanson to make it 6-1. The Vikings were unable to create momentum though as the Garnet took a 10-1 lead at halftime.Â
The Vikings never gave up the fight but they couldn't stop the Garnet as they added four more goals in the third to stretch their lead to 14-1. The Vikings tried to get some momentum going in the fourth as
Morgan Barton scored one minute into the quarter but that's all the Vikings would get as they fell 18-2.
The Vikings continue action at home as they host Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, March 14 at 12:00 PM.
