MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - A warm evening at Valhalla stadium set the stage for the Berry Vikings to attempt to rebound from their last two outings that unfortunately ended in losses. Facing the University of Wisconsin - River Falls Falcons, the Vikings felt like they had something to prove. Unfortunately, their efforts proved to not be quite enough to obtain the result that they were looking for. With the game ending 10-6 in the Falcons' favor, the Vikings set their sights on Rhodes College
In the 1st period of the game, the Falcons started the action first by scoring two goals giving them a small lead against the Vikings. A goal was then scored in favor of the Vikings by freshman
Lillie Swanson shortening the deficit in half. Closing the 1st period of the game, the Vikings were looking to latch on to the Falcons and even perhaps overtaking the lead and control of the game but that was it for the scoring.
The 2nd period also had the Falcons scoring the first two goals, opening their lead up to three goals until Junior
Katie Collier scored her first goal of the season, keeping the Vikings within reach of the Falcons looking to find a breakthrough. Unfortunately the 1st half of the game ended 4-2 in favor of the Falcons.
The 3rd half was dominated by the Falcons at first, scoring 3 goals in a row making the game 7-2, a pretty convincing lead in their favor. The Vikings needed to find some sort of stride to close out the 3rd period to bring this game back within grasp, and that happened with senior
Dani Taraska scoring a goal for her 16th goal of the season. Another goal by senior
Katie Claire Smith shortened the deficit, which also marked her 14th goal of the season. The period closed out at 7-4 in favor of the Falcons.
The 4th and final period of the game commenced with two Falcons goals making their lead five goals, which was answered by Lillie Swawson's 2nd goal of the game for her 15th goal of the season. The Falcons would score their final goal of the game which was responded by a goal from sophomore
Isabel Fransen which marked her 10th goal of the season. The game would end 10-6 in favor of the Falcons.
The Vikings plan to regroup against Rhodes on March 28, 11 AM in Memphis, Tennessee and attempt to gain and build some momentum into their following games.
