MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - After their last difficult match against Jacksonville State University, the Berry College men's tennis team faced off against Wallace State Community College with the intent of showcasing their continued growth. Despite battling hard the Vikings would come up short falling 7-0 at the Rome Tennis Center.
Jake Chapman/
Aiden Benoualid at first doubles held close up to 5-5, after which only a single break of serve led to their 5-7 loss.
Xavier Deckard /
Jace Goode at second doubles started strong but faltered on just a few key points in their 2-6 loss. The new doubles pairing of Leo Nedkov /
Anderson Lambert impressed the crowd with their energy and precise shot-making, finishing with a 6-3 victory but the Vikings weren't able to secure the doubles point.
In the singles, Wallace State managed to sweep Berry College 0-6, but not without a resounding effort from our gentlemen. Leo Nedkov at third singles kept every game close with his tenacity and only narrowly lost 6-7, 5-7.
Aiden Benoualid at sixth singles mounted a comeback once his strong groundstrokes began to hit their mark in a 2-6, 5-7 loss. Freshmen
Anderson Lambert and
Xavier Deckard at fourth and fifth singles prolonged the points despite succumbing 1-6, 2-6 and 4-6, 2-6, respectively.
Jace Goode showcased his speed against a heavy hitter in a 0-6, 1-6 loss. However, the day's standout performance must be attributed to
Jake Chapman, who stayed with his opponent shot for shot and had a tremendous comeback in the deciding tiebreak, only narrowly losing 6-2, 4-6, 11-13.
With some of the season's toughest opponents now behind them, the Berry College Men's Tennis Team will look to win their next match in a few weeks against local rivals Shorter University.
