KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Berry Vikings opened the second day of the D3 Showcase vs the Washington and Lee Generals from Lexington, Virginia to secure an 11-1 victory in run-ruled fashion.
The game was scoreless through three innings with not much going offensively from both sides.
Blythe Keisler got the start for the Vikings, picking up his first win while going 5 innings with 5 strikeouts.
Riley Uhls led the offense going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs.
In the top of the fourth the Berry offense finally came to life with a
Garrett Lang single plating
Chance Edmonds. Shortly after Tukana Mukono reached base from a hit by pitch and Lang scored right after from a Washington and Lee error.
Riley Uhls then singled to bring home Mukono home for another run. Junior catcher,
Austin Jetmore delivered with a two out double to score Uhls making it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth Keisler got out of a bases loaded jam to hold the Washington and Lee offense scoreless through four.
In the top of the fifth the Berry offense picked up right where they left off. The Berry offense was hit by five pitches in the inning alone and took full advantage of it by scoring 5 more runs making it 9-0.
Jackson Collett made his season debut in the top sixth for the Vikings after 5 scoreless innings from Keisler. Collett faced three hitters and got 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
In the top of the seventh
Riley Uhls and
Preston Dean scored off an error to bring the lead to 11-0.
Collett closed the game out, and the Vikings finished day two in North Carolina with an 11-1 victory over Washington and Lee.
Berry finishes off the D3 Showcase on Sunday, February 22 at 10 a.m. vs Susquehanna University.
