ATLANTA, Ga. - The Berry College Vikings baseball team opened their 2026 campaign with a big run-rule win in 7 innings, defeating the Emory Eagles 16-6 on Friday afternoon on the road.
Ethan Finch started the high scoring offensive affair going in the 3rd inning with a two out bases clearing double making it an early 5-0 lead after two errors that plated the first two.
Starting pitcher,
Jackson Halla threw three innings and tallied three strikeouts on the day.
The first run of the season came in in the top of the 2nd when
Ethan Finch scored after an error on Emory. The 3rd inning is when things took off for the Vikings with a seven-run inning. After a leadoff double by
Garrett Lang the Vikings offense began to explode.
Ethan Finch had a bases clearing double followed by a
Xavier Byams double to score Finch. Two batters later after a
Chase Edmonds single Lang once again doubled to right scoring Byams and Edmonds.
In the bottom of the 3rd Emory would plate three to cut their deficit down to five.
In the top of the 4th Finch singled to center scoring Charles Pulalski to bring the lead to six.
In the bottom of the 4th John Mark Christopher made his Vikings debut on the mound and threw three innings to help hold the Vikings lead.
The Eagles grabbed two in the bottom of the 4th after a two-run home run cutting the lead to four.
In the 5th
Austin Jetmore singled with two outs to plate
Tanaka Mukono bringing the Vikings lead to 10-5. Shortly after the Eagles plated one from a solo home run cutting the Vikings lead to four once again.
After a scoreless inning for both offenses in the 6th the Vikings offense turned things around in the seventh.
In the 7th the Vikings offense erupted for six runs on six hits from a
Riley Uhls double, Jetmore single,
Charles Pulaski single,
Nate Coker single, Edmonds double, and Lang single.
Cam Welsh came in to close the door for the Vikings in the bottom of the 7th, throwing a clean 1-2-3 inning to give the Vikings a solid 16-6 run-rule win.
The Vikings host the Eagles for a doubleheader tomorrow at Mount Berry starting at 1 p.m. and at 4 p.m.
