Men's Soccer Earns 1-0 Victory at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - A warm 11:00 a.m. kickoff set the stage for an important clash for the Berry Vikings against the Millsaps Majors as they were in search for their third conference win in four games to put them in a comfortable spot in the conference standings. The Vikings were able to prevail with a crucial 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon.

The first half was hard fought and saw its chances from both sides, but in the end it would conclude as a stalemate with the score being 0-0 going into halftime.

The second half started to get a little more physical between both sides. Eventually it would lead to the game defying chance for the Vikings when Daniel Foster got fouled in the penalty area, which gave them a penalty kick. Aiden Kanclerz stepped up to the plate and slotted the ball in the left side of the net, giving the Vikings the advantage in the 68th minute. The game would end with a lot of aggression from each side, but in the end the Vikings were able to come out with the desired result.

Berry won the shot battle 13-10, including four shots on goal compared to three for the Majors. Millsaps had five corner kicks while the Vikings had two, and there were six yellow cards in the match overall. Kanclerz had the game's lone goal, and four different Vikings had a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Cooper Cherry got the win in net with three saves.

The Vikings next play against the Trinity Tigers at San Antonio, Texas on Friday, October 16 at 8:30 p.m. eastern standard time.
