MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Men's soccer fell to the Maryville Scots 1-0. The Scots escaped Bob Pearson Field victorious after a clutch and controversial goal late in the second half.
During the first half, Berry's defense was the highlight. They refused to let the Scots get comfortable, only allowing three shot attempts from the box. Turning defense to offense and asserting their control over the game, the Vikings attempted six shots to keep pressure on the Scots' defense. Davis Reiger had a promising shot on goal, but the Vikings were unable to turn it into a score before the first half ended. This left Maryville and Berry tied at zero.
Beginning the second half, the Vikings kept applying pressure, putting up ten shots to force the Scots into a defensive mode. With eleven minutes left to play in the second half, the Vikings found themselves down 1-0 after the Scots managed to put one in following a controversial moment, with a scorer in a position that the Viking crowd argued was offside. Regardless, the Vikings couldn't create another goal down the stretch despite multiple shot attempts late, as they remained scoreless to close out the game.
The Berry College Vikings remain at home to take on their first SAA opponent in the Southwestern University Pirates, on October 3 at 7:30 PM ET.
