Vikings Rally For Two Wins to Advance in the SAA Tournament

CONWAY, Ark. - After postponing game play yesterday, the Vikings hit the field to take on the Hendrix Warriors, defeating them in both games to claim the fourth seed in the remainder of the tournament hosted at Millsaps College.

Game One: Berry 7 - Hendrix 6
The fourth inning was key for Berry as they posted a six spot to hold the lead over the Hendrix.

Mason Snyder had the start on the mound throwing 3.1 innings with four hits and five runs before being relieved by the pitcher of record, Brady Greene.

Two Hendrix errors in the top of the third benefited Berry to push Aiden Cloud across the plate after a double play to score the game's first run. However, the home team would respond in the bottom of the inning with a two run double to place themselves on top at 2-1.

In the fourth, the magic worked in the favor of Berry all beginning with the walk of Riley Uhls at the plate and another for Andrew Pendleton and both runners advanced on a wild pitch to put them in scoring position. Another walk loaded the bases with designated hitter Austin Jetmore stepping up to the plate. The fourth walk of the inning happened and pushed a run across for Berry.

Alex Knapp began the hitting with a single through the left side that scored two more runs for the Vikings and put them on top by two runs. The Hendrix pitcher was finally relieved, but Berry found two hits and sacrifice fly on the new arm to go up 7-2.

Hendrix would not stand for that run from the Vikings though, they found some of their own momentum in the bottom of the inning with four runs on four hits. After two runs, Greene stepped in on the mound with the bases loaded and get the final two outs after Hendrix scored their sixth run.

In the rest of the game, both teams would only find a few hits at the plate with the pitching staffs putting in most of the work supported by their defense. Aubrey Moraitakis and Cole Porter (who earned the save) saw the mound for Berry and Moraitakis had four strikeouts in his three innings of work.

Game Two: Berry 2 - Hendrix 0
Game two was an eleven-inning thriller that stood stagnant until the top of the 11th. Jackson Halla and Mason Schoonover were doing work on the mound. Halla threw the first six innings allowing the only two Hendrix hits of the game with four strikeouts.

Schoonover, the winning pitcher threw a hitless five innings to support the Berry defense as they tried time and time again to get things going at the plate.

The Vikings were able to find eight hits off the Warriors' two pitchers but they still had a valiant effort on the field.

Nick Brunswick started the eleventh with a single through the left side and with one out, Riley Uhls single through the right-side advanced Brunswick to third. With Andrew Pendleton at the plate, he hit a fly ball for a sacrifice fly to bring in Brunswick for the first run of the game. Before the last out, Caleb Spikes gave Berry an insurance run with an RBI single and the Vikings just needed three outs to complete the upset.

Schoonover took down the first three batters, ending the game with two final strikeouts to advance Berry in the SAA tournament.

Next up, Berry will be in Jackson, Mississippi taking on the first seeded Majors of Millsaps on Thursday May 8 at 6:00 PM ET.
