Softball Splits in Jackson with Millsaps

Two Earn 100th Career Hits

JACKSON, Miss. - This afternoon the Berry Softball team took on the Majors of Millsaps College in a doubleheader, defeating them in game one and dropping game two.

Game One: Berry 7 - Millsaps 1
Senior Hannah Gore earned her 13th win in the circle this season for the Vikings. She posted nine strikeouts in the seven inning game.

At the plate, Lauren Cothern had a great day going 3-3 scoring three runs as she notched her 100th career hit in the top of the fourth with a homerun to go up on the Majors 2-1.

Paige Bennett also secured her 100th career hit going 2-4 in the game. Her's came off her double in the top of the seventh inning.

The sixth inning was big for the Vikings as they put up three runs on four hits, sponsored by another homerun from Cothern, but this time a three run homerun as she continued to have a day on the Majors field.

Millspas had no chance to come back, the Vikings kept their foot on the gas and Gore was successful in the circle.

Game Two: Berry 3 - Millsaps 7
Game two was a bit of a different story as the Vikings could not carry their momentum over.

It was a standoff in the first three innings as neither team could cross the plate. Berry broke the curse in the fourth with a Kennedy Moody double to score Lauren Cothern. Moody scored later in the inning to go up 2-0 on the Majors.

Millsaps fought back and took all the momentum in the 6th after tying the game at 3 runs.

The team put up a five spot in the bottom of the sixth to take a huge advantage over the Vikings who would only have one more chance at the plate. The Millsaps pitcher would get it done and close out the game for a Millsaps win.

Both teams return to the field tomorrow to finalize the series.
