SEWANEE, Tenn. - The opening session of the 2025 SAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships has completed after a weather delay, Berry women sit in first place with 83.50 points.
Berry started strong in the first event of the meet, the women's 10k with
Ariel Ellis becoming an SAA Champion in the event with her time of 37:50.25 (a new lifetime PR) garnering 10 points for the team. Sinclaire Denney's eighth place finish brought a point in for the Vikings as well.
The only other scored running event came at the end of the day for the 3000m Steeplechase where senior
Erin Schmidt finished third (12:11.46).
The majority of Berry's points on the day came from the field events, 66.5 points to be exact.
Malysha Winston got it done in the hammer with a mark of 48.31m to take first place while teammate
Sofia Henderson had a mark of 43.42m to secure third in the event.
Avery Jones also captured point in the event with her finish in sixth.
Berry swept the podium in the pole vault with senior
Madeline Hubbert leading the way in first (3.34m),
Ella Pine in second (3.19m), and sophomore
Emilee Easley taking third (3.19m). Senior
Addie Blake also had a top ten finish at sixth in the event.
Second and third place finishes came in the javelin with
Sadie Phillips mark of 37.51m and
Cortney Brown right behind her at 36.21m.
Macy Murdock finished seventh in the javelin at her mark of 31.54m.
More points came in the long jump with Murdock in fifth and
Julia Shipes taking eighth.
All-SAA honors are given to those student-athletes who finish in the top three in their respective events. A running tally of Berry's All-SAA performers and their events based on their highest finishes will kept here during the conference championships.
