MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Baseball fell in their final game of the series to Millsaps this afternoon, 6-4. Berry is now 17-18 overall and 6-9 in the SAA.
Aubrey Moraitakis started on the mound for the Vikings in game three, striking out his first two batters and forcing a ground out at his third for a quick start to the game. He threw a solid two innings with three K's and only one hit.
By the bottom of the second, Berry had two hits: one from
Riley Uhls and another by
Charles Pulaski, but neither would score any runs as both teams headed to the top of the third scoreless.
Brady Greene was now on the mound for the Vikings and managed to get out of a tough inning and strand two Majors' as the home team headed to the plate.
Joey Garcia's single to center field started off the bottom of the third the right way for the Vikings. A walk for
Nick Brunswick advanced Garcia and an error from the Millsaps pitcher pushed Garcia to third. Uhls two-run single put Berry up before the closure of the inning.
Millsap's B. Bounds found success with a three-run homer to answer the Vikings two run inning and take a 3-2 lead. It would not be until the bottom of the fifth where Berry could tie it back up. Brunswick's double put Uhls at the plate who was intentionally walked, and Pulaski was walked to load the bases for Berry. This sequence would bring a new pitcher to the mound for the Majors, the new arm hit
Caleb Spikes with a pitch to bring the tying run across the plate.
Both teams knotted up at three, Berry reclaimed their lead from a lead-off homerun from Brunswick to kick-start the seventh inning. However, that would be the only run Berry could find in the inning, but they held the lead at 4-3.
In the final inning, Millsaps made their move after scoring a run in the eighth to tie it. Two runs off one hit claimed the two run lead with Berry getting one more shot at the plate. A late double play put the Vikings in a tough situation in the ninth and they were unable to make the comeback.
The Vikings will head to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, on Tuesday for a midweek game against Covenant before finishing the regular season that weekend at Sewanee.
