Softball Drops Two at No.8 Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Vikings fell to the Hawks of #8 Huntingdon College as they took on a tough double header match up, final scores 3-5 and 0-7, respectively.  

Game One: 

Slinging it in the circle for the Vikings was Hannah Gore, with 7 strikeouts on the day. Gore and an errorless Viking defense held the Hawks to a 0-0 ballgame through the first three innings.  

The Hawks opened up in the bottom of the 4th inning, driving in three runs (0-3). 

Offense for the Vikings rose in response, stringing hits together in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game back up. Leading off the inning, Bradynn Belcher drew the walk and was ran for by Emerson Wilson. Wilson was joined on the bases by Madison Miller, who singled through the 5-6 hole. Hitting a ball to the left side, Paige Bennett reached on fielder's choice, putting Miller in scoring position. Elly Bennett stepped up to the plate, driving in Miller with a deep shot to left center for a stand-up double. The Vikings continued to scrape back, as Kennedy Moody roped a single up the middle to score Paige Bennett (2-3). A sacrifice fly by Lauren Cothern allowed Elly Bennett to cross the plate, bringing the score to 3-3 going into the bottom of the 5th inning.  

Huntingdon pushed one run to break the tie in the 5th and extended their lead to 3-5 in the 6th inning after a home run by A.Wommack.  

The Vikings were hard fought, but were unable to spark another offensive rally, bringing the final score to 3-5.  

Game Two: 

Starting on the rubber for the Vikings was Casey Holloway, with three strikeouts in 4 innings. 

Huntingdon started off, driving in 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and one run in the 4th for a 0-4 lead.  

Offense for the Vikings was unable to find holes in the Hawks defense and remained hitless for the first time all season.  

Avery Greeson and Megan Rapillo entered in relief of Holloway in the 5th inning. 

The Hawks continued to string hits together and were able to drive in 2 more runs in the 5th inning (0-7). 

The Vikings were unable to find momentum offensively to scrape back, leaving the final score at 0-7. 

Berry will be back in action for their final home conference series this Tuesday, as they take on the Tigers of Sewanee University. Catch them in action at Kay Williams field, with games at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
