MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry women's lacrosse team took to Valhalla this evening in a battle of the Vikings to take down Augustana 17-1.
In the goal,
Libby Pittman earned the win, playing all sixty minutes with three saves and only one goal allowed. Offensively, freshman
Morgan Barton showed out with five goals and
Bella Marrone shared the ball well on her way to four assists.
Maddie Dahl's 11 draw controls benefited the Vikings in gaining opening possessions to lead to their 17 goals. Barton,
Katie Claire Smith and
Molley Cross opened the game at 6:00 PM with three consecutive goals within a minute of each other and only two minutes into the game.
These three goals set the tone for the remainder of the contest with a huge Berry run until the other Vikings scored their lone goal in the fourth period.
In the first, Berry shot up 7-0 with only allowing one shot and controlling the ball 99% of the time.Â
Berry's offense and defense were hot today as Augustana was on their way to almost 40 turnovers. The home team caused 24 of those turnovers with
Sydney Howard leading the way with 4 and four other Berry players with three apiece.
By halftime, the game clock was rolling with Berry up 14-0 securing the running clock with their 10
th goal with 9 minutes remaining in the half.
Nothing changed after halftime, Berry still held their foot on the gas and although the goals came a little less often, their defense stood strong to hold off the hope of Augustana.
Berry cruised to victory to be the top Viking in the contest and will be back in action at Valhalla this weekend to open up SAA play against Hendrix on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET.
