MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings hit their home turf today to take on the Hartford Hawks, falling to them 12-6.
Molley Cross had a huge effort on the offensive end, scoring three goals in the Vikings attempt to take down the Hawks.
Elisabeth Vickrey and
Katherine Herrero each had three caused turnovers in help on the defensive side to keep the Hawks away from
Myskina Bolavong in the goal.
Dani Taraska took the initial lead for the Vikings, scoring in the first minute and a half, but that would be the only lead the Vikings would see as the sun went down. Hartford answered Taraska's goal with a quick two before
Molley Cross's first goal tied the game at 2.
The Hawks closed out the first period with four unanswered goals (two of which were free position shots) to be up 6-2 heading into the second.
Both teams' defensive stance across most of the second period was commendable as neither team could find the back of the net until Hartford did with 6:30 left to go in the half, the only goal of the second period. In the third Hartford tacked on two more goals and Berry found another to make the score 9-3.
Berry attempted to make a late comeback in the fourth after the Hawks went up 12-3.
Katie Claire Smith scored with six minutes remaining and Cross had back-to-back man-up goals that sparked some sideline energy.
However, the comeback would occur too late, and the Vikings would fall at home.
Berry will be back in action at Valhalla this Saturday against Buffalo State at 12:00 PM ET.
