ATLANTA - Vikings Baseball opened up their 2025 season with a high-scoring game, falling to the Emory Eagles, 12-11.
Andrew Pendleton started off the season with a two-run homerun in his first at bat bringing in
Nick Brunswick who reached first after a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher,
Jackson Halla got things done in the bottom of the inning to give Berry a 2-0 advantage.
The scoring really opened up in the top of the second with the Vikings boasting five runs and four hits. Before Emory knew it, the Vikings were taking control in Atlanta up by seven after running through the lineup. Halla continued great work with three up and three down to conclude the inning.
Emory finally woke up in the third inning with seven runs off of seven hits that would bring
Jon Strydom to the mound.
In the bottom of the fourth after a quite top of the inning,
Nicholas Angelakos made an appearance as the Eagles went up one run off an RBI single through the left side.
Now Berry had to work from behind for the first time of the game.
Charles Pulaski's single and stolen base that led him to advance to third on a wild pitch put freshman
Jameson Farley in a good position to bring in his first collegiate RBI tying it up at 8.
Aubrey Moraitakis came in relief having two shutout innings as Pendleton aided offensively for the Vikings all day. Going 4-4 at the plate with 3 runs and 5 RBIs, his effort was most noteworthy.
At the top of the 6th, Berry regained an advantage at 9-8 when
Jacob Bridges brought in Pendleton on a single. The lead grew at 11-8 in the next inning with more Vikings getting hot.
Berry held on until the bottom of the 8
th when the home team found some oil to keep rolling. The Eagles scored four runs to capture the home win as the Vikings were unable to answer in the ninth.
Berry and Emory finalize the series in Mount Berry tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM ET.
