COLUMBUS, Ohio - Women's lacrosse traveled to Capital University on the second game of their road trip, where they fell to the Comets by a final score of 21-5.
Molley Cross led the way for the Viking offense with two goals and one assist to pace Berry.
Katie Claire Smith,
Dani Taraska, and
Hayden Clement also each added a goal.
A slow start from the Viking defense led to them falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter.Â
The Vikings continued to struggle to find their footing in the early goings of the second quarter, as the Comets were able to add four goals at the midway point of the second period.
Facing adversity, the Vikings did not blink, as Cross dealt the ball to
Hayden Clement, who would pierce the back of the net to give the Vikings their first goal of the game. Still behind 14-1, Berry did not stop their comeback, as Cross made her presence felt again when she weaved through the Capital defense and scored another goal to bring her team within 12.Â
Just a minute later,
Dani Taraska joined in on the scoring run with a goal of her own that gave the Vikings some momentum heading into the halftime break.
Capital would strike first in the second half, making the score 15-3 with 9:21 left in the third quarter. A few minutes later, Cross rattled the Comet defense again with another goal that bought the Vikings back within 11 with 6:55 to play in the third quarter. Capital added two more goals just before the end of the third period that made the score 17-4 at the end of the third.
The Comets kept the pressure on the Viking defense in the fourth quarter as they added two goals in the first four minutes. With 10:36 to play,
Katie Claire Smith gave the Vikings some life, as she found the back of the net with 10:36 to play, cutting the deficit to 14.Â
Down the stretch, Berry showed no quit as they continued to battle. Despite their efforts, Capital would knock in two more goals to end the game with a final score of 21-5.Â
