MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry Vikings win a close game against the Brandeis Judges 11-10, thanks to a strong offensive performance and three straight shutout innings from the bullpen to close the game.
The Vikings fell behind 2-0 early in the game, as the Judges scored on RBIs from Ben Kuja and Henry Aronwald in the first inning. Berry cut that lead in half in the second inning on an RBI single from Charles Pulaski, his first in a four-hit performance.
Berry took the lead for the first time in the fourth inning, as the Vikings plated five runs to make the score 6-2. Jameson Farley reached on an error, allowing Pulaski to score and tie the game. Alex Knapp's RBI single an at-bat later gave the Vikings the lead. Berry's scoring in the inning would end on Andrew Pendleton's RBI error.
Brandeis did not wait long to retaliate, as they took a 7-6 lead in the fifth inning. The Judges tied the game on Aronwald's two RBI single and took the lead on Jake Freed's RBI single. Brandeis added three more runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 10-6, capped off with yet another RBI single from Aronwald.
The Vikings fired back in the bottom of the sixth, as they pushed across five runs to take an 11-10 lead that they would not relinquish. Nick Brunswick's bases loaded RBI single started the scoring for the Vikings, and they tied the game on Pulaski's two RBI double down the left field line. Garrett Lang's RBI infield single pushed the go-ahead run across for the Vikings, making the score 11-10.
Berry's bullpen then proceeded to shut out the Judges. Cooper Chunn threw a scoreless seventh inning, benefiting from an inning-ending double play with runners' interference. The Vikings then turned to Aubrey Moraitakis, and he produced a two inning save, the first save of his collegiate career.
Pulaski's four hit, three RBI performance led the Vikings in both categories. Lang also had a good day, finishing 3-for-5 with the go-ahead RBI. Joey Garcia, Riley Uhls, Knapp, Pendleton, Brunswick, and Edmonds also all had an RBI.
Jon Strydom earned his first win of the season, as he entered the game in the middle of the sixth and induced an inning-ending double play to end the Judges' threat. Moraitakis also had two strikeouts to go along with his first save.
The Vikings will be back in action Friday at 7 p.m. ET against Swarthmore College in the 2025 D3 College Showcase in Kannapolis, N.C.
