Vikings Drop Final Game of Centre Classic to the Colonels

Danville, KY - The Vikings Women's Basketball team had a really fun game against Centre College. The Vikings held up a good defense while Centre kept the offense coming which kept the game interesting. The total score was 51-67.

The first quarter started off good for the Vikings as one minute in Lauren Ellard set up a good layup and scored a two pointer giving the Vikings the early lead.

The quarter went on with Centre gaining the lead as they racked up some points quickly. With a couple of two pointers on their end they were able to take charge as they set themselves up with 5 points with Berry at 4. This lead did not last long as Berry took matters into their own hands and decided to turn the first quarter around and score one point after another.

Berry knocked down a couple free throws and a bucket, but Emma Hempker really put in the work as she scored a three for the Vikings as they reached their 11th point with Centre at 7. This great momentum did falter as Berry continued to score a few more points but Centre redeemed themselves as they caught up quickly. They jumped ahead with 12 points, closing out the first quarter with them at 19 points and Berry at 13.

The Vikings started off the second quarter quickly as they tried to make up for their lack of points during the first quarter. They worked to close that six point gap and managed to score two baskets which made them catch up slightly setting the score 17-19.

The quarter went on with Centre again gaining a huge point advantage, 7 points ahead of Berry as they reached their 29th point with Berry at 22. The Vikings although scoring points slowly did not stop as Emma Hempker proved to still be on fire as she scored a three for Berry bringing them closer to Centre.

Berry managed to score more points but still lingered behind Centre as they continued to maintain an eight point gap between them. Berry scored all the way up to 27 points as Centre finished off with 35 points taking the second quarter as a win for them.

Things started off slow for the Vikings during the third quarter as Centre scored two points with Berry only having scored one, 28-37.

Briaiah Lewis scored a layup bringing Berry to the 30 point mark. Reaching the five minute mark, halfway through the third quarter Berry started to score again. Briaiah Lewis scored a few more baskets really closing in on Centre as the score settled at 35-37.

Berry was not able to keep up their close distance with Centre as they started to slow down with Centre rocketing ahead finishing the 3rd quarter in their favor with the score 38-46.

In the fourth quarter the Vikings hit the 40th point mark, reaching the same range as Centre was still sitting at 46 points. The Vikings sat at 40 points for a while as Centre went ahead and created an even bigger lead than before.

The game went on with Centre scoring up until their 54th point before the Vikings, Gabrielle Aiello scored a basket which brought them within 42-54. The momentum for the Vikings continued to slow on and off as opportunities for Centre to score a basket continued to be made and points on their end continued to add up.

With more shots made from Berry and Centre the quarter neared an end as the time was ticking down. Berry reached their 50th point while Centre had already advanced onto their 65th point.
