DESTIN, Fla. -
The Berry Vikings women's golf team took their talents to Destin, Florida this past weekend to play in the GolfWeek October Classic. This was the ladies third event of the fall season and was played at The Links Golf Club at Sandestin. The three day, 54-hole event was comprised of 120 players from 24 teams. The Vikings finished in 24th position at +230 for the tournament.
Back in her home state of Florida, Freshman
Hailey Netro led the way for the lady Vikings. On the water infested, par 72 layout, Netro posted rounds of 88, 85, and 81. She finished the tournament at +38 which put her in a tie for 95th place. Netro led the team in par 3 scoring average at 3.08. For the event, she finished +1 on the par 3's and was -2 on the par 3's in the final round alone. Netro also led the Vikings in par 5 scoring average at 5.50 which included two birdies both coming on hole #11 in the first two rounds.
Sophomore
Grace Schuh opened up round one with a +19, 91. In round two, she bounced back and shot a team best +10, 82. Schuh's sizzling performance in the second round included two birdies and a stellar even par performance on all four par 3's. Schuh closed the
GolfWeek October Classic with a par on the difficult par 5 ninth en route to a +16, 88. For the event, Schuh finished in 105th position at +45.
Graduate student
Amanda Milner fired an opening round +17, 89 which included one birdie on the par 3 16th. In round two, Milner matched her round one score with an 89. Her second round featured a birdie on the par 4 10th and a heroic recovery shot on the second hole. On the second hole in round two, Milner's ball landed right of the fairway and snuggled up to a decorative boundary fence in someone's yard. The ball was in bounds and playable but required a ton of skill to get it back in position. With the help of Coach
Chris Wilson, Milner hit one of the best recovery shots of the season. She closed the club face, altered her swing plane to avoid the fence, and punched it through a shoot of trees back into the fairway. In the final round, Milner shot her best round all week with a +14, 86. Milner finished the tournament at +48, and in a tie for 108th.
The top three finishers for the Vikings which included
Hailey Netro,
Grace Schuh, and
Amanda Milner each led the Vikings with four birdies for the event.
Freshman
Mackenzie Manning was set to make her debut
on Sunday morning and completed play with a +37, 109. In round two, Manning improved her score from round one and shot a +30, 102. Manning got off to a slow start in round three but rallied back and improved her opening nine score by 8 shots on the inward nine. She played the third round in +32 which was good for a 104. Manning finished the event at +99 and in 106th place.
Junior

Bryant shot a +40, 112 in the final round. With her grandparents coming out to support all three days, Bryant finished the event in 117th place at +111.
