JACKSON, Miss. - The No. 14 Berry College Vikings volleyball team swept the Millsaps University Majors 3-0 for their second sweep in a row in SAA play on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings came storming out of the gates on a 5-1 run with kills from Blakely Barnes, Lura Underwood and Madie Whitehead. The Vikings continued to dominate set set as a block by Barnes and Whitehead increased their lead to 16-8. The Majors looked for an answer but it was all Vikings as they went on to take the first set 25-18 and take a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings looked to continue their momentum into the second set, but the Majors kept it close as the Vikings led 11-10 midway through the set. The Vikings then seized control with a 6-0 run with kills from Whitehead and Keira Kruk to extend their advantage to 17-10. The Majors would rally to make it 17-13 but that's as close as they got as the Vikings closed out the set on an 8-2 run to win 25-15 and take a 2-0 lead.Â
The Vikings looked to close out the game in the third set but the Majors had other ideas as they took an early 7-5 lead. The Vikings would quickly tie the game with a kill by Underwood set up by Ava Brovet and an ace by Maddie Dahl. The teams then exchanged leads before the Majors tied it 10-10. The Vikings then seized control with a 3-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. The Majors looked for a response but the Vikings didn't flinch as Underwood and Cali Armstead finished off the game with back to back kills to give the Vikings a 25-19 win and a 3-0 sweep.
Kruk led the Vikings with 13 kills while Brovet led with 40 assists.Â
The Vikings continue SAA play on the road as they travel to Memphis, TN to take on Rhodes College on Sunday, October 12 at 1:00 PM.
