SEWANEE, Tenn. - In their first SAA matchup of the year, the Vikings fell to the favored team to win the SAA, 2-0.
The game remained scoreless through the first half despite Berry's Maggie Jones making three saves. Sewanee's offensive pressure, which resulted in nine shots in the first half, was effectively stifled by Berry's defense, keeping the game level at halftime.
However, Sewanee broke through early in the second half when Ashlyn Richards netted an unassisted goal at the 47:22 mark, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Berry struggled to respond offensively, managing only five total shots, two of which were on target.
Sewanee continued to press, tallying 19 shots in the second half alone. Jones was busy in goal, finishing with 12 saves, but Sewanee secured the victory with a second goal in the 84th minute. Richards assisted Samantha Ferry, who scored to seal the 2-0 win for the Tigers.
Despite Berry's defensive efforts, Sewanee dominated possession with 64% and had a decisive advantage in shots.Â
The Vikings will look to bounce back next Saturday at home against Centre College at 3:00 PM ET.
