Men's Tennis Bests Shorter

Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Berry men stormed the indoor home courts with a winning mindset against Shorter University, after having bested Piedmont University in yesterday's tightly contested meet.

In a turnaround from yesterday, the third doubles team of Leo Nedkov and Nico Koch were the first to lead the charge with a quick 6-1 victory. Noah Koch and Deuce Daniel at first doubles were quick to follow winning 6-1. Aiden Benoualid and Jake Chapman at second doubles had the longest doubles points of the day, with games being decided by the slimmest of margins. However, they prevailed 6-3 to give Berry the doubles point and the lead heading into singles.

With only three matches being played at a time indoors, it was important for Noah, Deuce, and Drayton at first, second, and third singles, respectively, to set the stage. Deuce started the match on serve but stayed consistent and found the breaks to win 6-2, 6-2. However, Drayton lost his match 6-0, 6-2 when Noah was in a tight spot in a deciding third set, 10-point tiebreaker. Ultimately, Noah lost 3-6, 6-4, 0-1 (7-10) to tie the series 2 points a piece.

Jake, Leo, and Aiden were next to grace the courts at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively. Leo impressed at his first singles showing, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2. Aiden was quick to follow with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Jake ended up with a resilient opponent who brought the match into a second set tiebreaker. However, with the entire team cheering for Jake, he prevailed 6-1, 7-6(2) to cap a terrific day for Berry College.

Having beaten Shorter University 5-2 today, the men will look to continue their march at the ITA regionals in two weeks where they will represent Berry college in singles and doubles tournament play.
