Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Vikings fell in a close match to SAA opponent Rhodes in today's Pack the House event, 5-4.

The men were tasked with a tough opponent today as Rhodes College arrived ready to play on a chilly morning. Berry College went to work in doubles, with Noah Koch / Diego Lopez defeating their first doubles opponent 8-5 to set the tone for the day. Jake Chapman / Aiden Benoualid at third doubles maintained the momentum by winning 8-2, and Drayton Matus / Bohdan Higley at second doubles were able to stay close but succumbed to the pressure, eventually losing 8-3.

With a 2-1 match advantage, the men jumped to a strong start with Noah Koch at first singles capitalizing on single breaks of serves to win 6-4, 6-4. Aiden Benoualid followed shortly at sixth singles by winning 6-4, 6-2, but despite Berry College leading 4-1 in match scores, Rhodes College mounted a comeback which began at third singles, with Drayton Matus losing 6-3, 6-3. This was followed by Jace Goode losing at fifth singles 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and Jake Chapman losing at fourth singles 6-2, 7-5. With the scores tied 4-4, the deciding match became Diego Lopez at second singles, who overcame a first set deficit to enter and lead the third set. However, an onset of cramps while 4-1 in the third set caused Diego to falter, losing the match 1-6, 7-5, 4-6.

Despite a 5-4 match loss to Rhodes College, the Berry men will focus on their recovery and come back stronger tomorrow against their conference match versus Hendrix College.
