Box Score ROME, Ga. - Berry Women's Tennis fell in their SAA matchup at home against Sewanee 9-0.
Faced with their toughest conference opponent yet this season, the Berry women were up to the challenge as Lauren Masteller / Juliana Mascagni at first doubles maintained a very close match score, ultimately losing 5-8. Saris Mejia and Lacey Craig also got off to a strong start but Sewanee began to gradually pull away, with our second doubles team losing 3-8. Angelle Thornton / Olivia Walton at third doubles struggled to find their rhythm against a tough opponent, losing 0-8.
The Berry women were intent on rallying back in the singles matches but the gap was unfortunately too wide as Sewanee shut the door, beginning with Lacey Craig losing 3-6, 0-6 and Olivia Walton losing 3-6, 1-6 at third and fourth singles, respectively. This was followed by loses at first and sixth singles, with Lauren Masteller scoring 3-6, 1-6 and Angelle Thornton scoring 2-6, 3-6, respectively. However, Juliana Mascagni was able to find second wind in the her second set at second singles, almost pushing it to a deciding set but unfortunately lost 3-6, 5-7. Saris Mejia was equally motivated to close the gap but ultimately scored 1-6, 4-6.
Despite a 0-9 match loss to Sewanee, the Berry women were able to showcase their grit and what they can produce. They will look to improve on their results and form heading into tomorrow's match versus Centre College.
