Men's Tennis Falls to Emory and CBU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. - Viking Men's Tennis fell in both of their home matches today to Emory and DII Christian Brother University.

Men's Match vs. Emory University

In their toughest test yet, the men's berry tennis team faced off against Emory University in the early hours of Sunday morning. Doubles jumped off to strong starts but second doubles of Drayton Matus & Bohdan Higley and third doubles of Aiden Benoualid and Jake Chapman were unable to maintain their service in the end, losing 2-8 and 3-8 respectively. First doubles of Diego Lopez and Noah Koch were able to maintain a close distance to their opponents and had opportunities to go into a tiebreak, but were unfortunately broken on their service to lose 6-8.

The men raised their level to a new high during their singles matches, testing one of the best teams in the nation with Noah Koch, Drayton Matus, and Jake Chapman all going three sets but unable to find the answer as Emery shut the door. Drayton Matus had the best opportunity to score a win, leading 4-1 in the third set until cramping led to complications and the unfortunate loss of 4-6 in the deciding set. Diego Lopez and Jace Goode both had a great showing with both Diego's and Jace's sets decided only by single breaks of service, and Aiden had one of his closest matches, losing 6-7 (5-7), 4-6. Despite an eventual 0-9 loss to Emery, the men were motivated by their performance and looked to bring the heat to Christian Brothers University later that afternoon.
