MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Baseball fell in their doubleheader against the Colonels of Centre College today to drop the SAA series.
Game One Berry 2 - Centre 5
Centre led from the top of the first after an error at third base sent a runner home and left the Vikings unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.
The Colonels added two more runs in the second after the inning began with two more errors. Now down 3-0, Berry needed to respond. In the bottom of the second,
Andrew Pendleton was walked, and
Garrett Lang singled to the pitcher. As
Alex Knapp approached the plate, an error by the pitcher on a bunt scored two runs and put the game back within reach.
Throughout the next few innings, the game was quite offensively with both teams doing work in the field, mostly accredited to the pitchers' efforts.
With the Vikings looking to make a comeback, the Colonels had a huge ninth inning scoring two additional runs to take the win at 5-2.
Game Two Berry 0 - Centre 2
In game two, the Vikings still struggled to get the bat to connect with only four hits across the seven inning game compared to Centre's eight.
Centre's lead-off batter went 3-4 at the plate scoring the only two runs of the game in the first and third innings.
After winning yesterday, these two SAA losses put the Vikings at 1-2 in the conference and 12-5 overall.
Berry heads to LaGrange for a single game on Tuesday at 6:00 PM ET.
