Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Berry College men arrived at Covenant College with high expectations after having played their rival this past fall, and they managed to prevail in a very close series by winning 5 to 4 in match scores.
The men jumped off to a strong start in doubles, with Drayton Matus and Bohdan Higley securing the first match 8-4 at third doubles, with Jace Goode and Noah Koch continuing the momentum by winning 8-6 at first doubles. Jake Chapman and Aiden Benoualid were on track to follow suit at second doubles, but unfortunately lost in a nail-biter 8-7, only two points away from a potential victory with a 7-5 score in the tiebreaker.
However, momentum shifted during the singles matches as Berry and Covenant found themselves deadlocked 2-2 in singles scores. Drayton Matus at third singles and Jake Chapman at second singles were unfortunately unable to weather the storm that were their opponents, but Aiden Benoualid prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at fifth singles and Noah Koch held on after two intense tiebreak sets to win 7-6, 6-7, 6-2. Berry College needed one more win to seal the deal, and Jace Goode delivered the win at fourth singles after another tough three second match, going 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
The men are continuing to build momentum and look to extend their win-streak heading into next Friday's away match versus Oglethorpe University.
