MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Women's lacrosse wins fourth straight with their home victory against Piedmont in tonight's midweek matchup.
The Vikings struck six first period goals to boost themselves to a victory. It was
Molley Cross who started the 6-0 run in the first two minutes of play and went on to have three first period goals to lead Berry offensively.
In the second, the Lions were able to find their first goal after the seventh was scored by Berry's
Dani Taraska. Piedmont had two more goals before halftime, but the Vikings finished the period on a 4-0 run led by Taraksa and
Haley Larsen, the leading scorer of the game.
After halftime, a new Lions team came out of the locker room. After an amazing first half defensive performance, the Vikings began to slack.
A 6-1 run from Piedmont stunned Berry and put the score at 13-9 as both teams headed into the final 15 minutes of play. What was almost a ten-point running clock game, quickly began a close fight.
Before everyone knew it, the Lions had chipped away and brought the game within one goal at 15-14 with three minutes to go. Berry was now on the hot seat, with still enough time for the Lions to make a complete comeback, they needed the clock to be on their side.
Piedmont won the next draw control and earned a free position shot after a Viking foul, but the shot was blocked and recovered by the Lions. However, Taraska saved the day with a late caused turnover gave
AnnaKate Estock and
Haley Larsen the green light to get the ball down the field, Estock scored the Vikings 16
th and final goal of the game to create a two-goal separation from Piedmont to secure the game with seven seconds left.
