FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Berry Women's Lacrosse starts the season 3-0 with their close defeat of Methodist in a 11-10 victory on the road to wrap up the weekend.
The scoring duo of
Haley Larsen and
Dani Taraska showed up again in today's matchup scoring the first two goals in the first period for a 2-0 lead over the Monarchs.
Those two goals were the only ones of the first with two saves the winning goalkeeper,
Ally Washburn to hold Methodist scoreless in the first fifteen minutes of play.
In the second quarter, each team found three goals, Taraska having two of the Vikings. However, the Monarchs three did not deter the Vikings as they still held a 5-3 lead at halftime.Â
In the first half, Berry controlled the ball 6-4 on draw controls, giving them first possession chances which led to goals, but the third quarter played into Methodist's favor as they won all five draw controls and outscored the Vikings 3-1 to tie up the game at six.
The final fifteen minutes of play was sloppy with a combined 16 turnovers, ten of them coming from Berry.Â
With the Vikings up two, 10-8 with eight minutes remaining they just needed to hold off the Monarchs for a little longer, but the home team found a way to tie it, scoring a second goal under the two-minute mark.
Methodist won the draw control, but Taraska caused a quick turnover and cleared the ball,
Haley Larsen flew a wide shot and at the 45 second mark
Molley Cross claimed the game winning goal while Larsen sealed it with the last draw control to hold out the ball and run out the time!
The Vikings will be back in action at Valhalla on February 21 against Piedmont University at 6:00 PM ET.
