GREENSBORO, NC - Berry Women's Lacrosse earns their second victory this season after opening up at home with a stellar road win at Guilford 20-5.
It was the sophomore
Dani Taraska that opened up the night with consecutive goals within twenty seconds of each other for an early 2-0 Vikings lead. Berry had control the entire night and outshot Guilford 49-9.
Leading scorer,
Haley Larsen chimed in after Taraska's two goals to take the lead to three as she was on her way to seven goals for the game.
Guilford hoped right back in the game with two first period goals to put the pressure back on Berry, but Taraska kept sticking it to the Quakers with her third goal of the first (4-2). A big part in the team's success was winning 23 of the 28 draw controls to get more first possessions at each stoppage.Â
A late goal in the first left Guilford down one. However, the Vikings came alive in the second and outscored the Quakers 7-1 in the period. Larsen found three back-to-back-to-back goals and four other Vikings flew them past the goalkeeper as Taraska closed of the first half with her fourth goal. The Vikings were sitting pretty up 11-4.
The duo of Taraska and Larsen continued to thrive in the second half with more goals and each picking up eleven ground balls on the game, the shined for the Vikings with
Myskina Bolavong in between the pipes not letting much of anything get through with her save in 15 minutes of play to earn the win and
Ally Washburn continuing to hold a strong defense in her 30 minutes before being relieved by
Libby Pittman.
To end the game, the Vikings finalized a 5-0 run, allowing no goals for the Quakers in the fourth as they clinched a 20-5 dominating win.
The team is back in action on the road Sunday, completing their weekend trip at Methodist, game time is set for 12:00 PM ET.
