MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry Volleyball team has clinched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament, first stop will be in Atlanta, Georgia at host site Emory University.
Viking Volleyball has paved the way to the NCAA Regional after securing their fourth consecutive SAA title to take the automatic bid to the tournament.
Berry has been matched up with the Whitworth Pirates. Historically the teams have only seen each other once before, back in 2018 once against at Emory where the Vikings won 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
This season the Pirates are 26-2, going 16-0 in their conference, the NWC. The team is led by Ella Jimenez with 354 kills on the season benefiting their team in the regular season and tournament championships. Josephine Thomas has also been having a stellar season setting up Jimenez with over 500 assists and defensively Taylor Miche leads in digs with 400.
As for Berry, the comeback kids are ready to head to the NCAA tournament with huge performances all year long. Although their record does not reflect a perfect season, the Vikings have played in many gritty matches and have faced plenty of nationally ranked teams.Â
Lura Underwood is coming off an SAA Tournament MVP title along with fellow All-SAA players and teammates
Bella Boston and
Lindsey MacDiarmid.
Boston and Underwood lead the team in kills and MacDiarmid recently surpassed 2,000 career assists in aiding in those attacks. On the defensive side, Underwood totals the most digs on the team and has had many double-doubles this season, followed by the dynamic libero duo of
Kate Whittle and
Andrea Hurt, who work effortlessly in their interchanging throughout each match.
Head coach
Caitlyn Moriarty is ready to lead the charge with many familiar faces in the Emory regional from Transylvania, Covenant, and Trinity. She reached her 200th career win this season and helped push the team to their fourth consecutive title.
The Vikings are set to face off with the Pirates at 11:30 AM ET in Atlanta.
