MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - In a commanding performance at The Cage Center on Mountain Day, the Berry Vikings secured a straight-set victory over the Sewanee Tigers.
Berry's attack was led by
Bella Boston, who delivered 11 kills with an impressive .296 hitting percentage.
Lindsey MacDiarmid added 8 kills, while
Keira Kruk chipped in with 8 kills of her own. The Vikings showed dominance in both serving and defense, with
Andrea Hurt contributing 5 digs and
Keira Kruk delivering key defensive plays. MacDiarmid also stood out with a remarkable 20 digs, anchoring Berry's backline.
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with multiple lead changes, as both teams traded points early. Berry found themselves in a tight contest, but they managed to pull ahead late in the set with key contributions from
Lindsey MacDiarmid and
Keira Kruk. Kruk's six kills in the first set were pivotal in helping Berry gain the upper hand. Despite Sewanee's resilience, Berry held on to win the set 25-23, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
The second set saw Berry seize control right from the start. A six-point serving run by MacDiarmid, which included two service aces, gave the Vikings an 8-0 lead that Sewanee could never recover from. Berry's offensive balance was on full display, with
Bella Boston and
Lura Underwood contributing crucial kills. Defensively, Berry held Sewanee to a negative hitting percentage (-.077), forcing errors while maintaining a solid .279 hitting percentage themselves. The Vikings closed out the set 25-16 in commanding fashion.
Set three mirrored the second, with Berry once again jumping out to an early lead, bolstered by efficient attacking and strong serving. Boston continued her excellent play with five more kills in the final set, while MacDiarmid and Kruk added timely points to keep Sewanee at bay.Â
