MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Viking Women's Soccer has earned the right to host their first-round Southern Athletic Association Tournament game as a 3-seed against the 6-seeded Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels at Pearson Field on Saturday November 2nd at 3 PM ET.
Berry (No.3) and Oglethorpe (No. 6) met just last weekend on the Viking's Senior Day, where the Vikings rolled to a 4-0 victory, thanks to two goals from reigning SAA Athlete of the Week, Teresa Rodriguez, and goals from Hannah Henn and Kelsie Crosier. Berry also dominated the game in the field defensively, only allowing one shot on goal for Oglethorpe.
The Vikings have been flexing their muscles as of late, as they have outscored opponents 7-1 in their last five games and are on a two-game winning streak. Coach Kathy Insel-Brown had this to say about the matchup, "Coming off Saturday's win over Oglethorpe, we are confident, but when it comes to playoff games and both teams being desperate to win, anything can happen. We are working hard to prepare for tactical changes from Oglethorpe's coaching staff."
Defensively, the Vikings look to defenders like Olivia Bryan and Annie Connors to put pressure on opposing attackers. GK Maggie Jones is having a stellar year in goal for the Vikings with 76 saves on the year.
Offensively, Berry embodies a balanced attack, spearheaded by Teresa Rodriguez with 4 goals and 2 assists. Nicole Knight provides speed for the Viking attack and has 2 goals and 1 assist for the Viking attack. Margaret Eddins has also added 2 goals on the year.
