Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Berry men faced Wallace State Community College for their final match of the Fall season, falling 5-2.
As the underdogs of this series, the men fought three closely contested doubles matches and ended up split, as Deuce Daniel /
Jace Goode lost 5-7 at first doubles and
Jake Chapman / Aiden Beoualid mounted a comeback to win 7-5 at second doubles. However, the senior third doubles duo of
Bohdan Higley /
Drayton Matus prevailed 7-6(4), clinching the doubles point for Berry College.
The men were eager to transfer their momentum into singles, but their opponents struck first as
Jace Goode lost 2-6, 3-6 at third singles and
Aiden Benoualid 1-6, 0-6 at fifth singles. Leo Nedkov and
Jake Chapman tried to even out the match scores, but unfortunately lost 3-6, 4-6 and 4-6, 1-6 at sixth and second singles, respectively. With
Noah Koch's absence at first singles, Deuce Daniel filled his shoes and rallied from a 0-6 first set to bring it to a closely contested second set tiebreaker, ultimately losing 0-6, 6-7(4). With the series having been decided in Walllace State Community College's favors,
Drayton Matus relaxed at fourth singles and went for his shots in what will be his last match representing Berry College. He fought to bring the match to a third set tiebreaker, and left proud as he produced some of his best shots to give Berry their only singles win, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4).
With a final meet score of 2-5, the men will use this as fuel to continue to improve in the coming months in preparation for their spring season.
