ATLANTA, Ga. - The Viking hit the road to take on in-state rival Oglethorpe in tonight's matchup, defeating the Petrels in three.
Berry defeated their opponent in every category tonight, most notably in kills 41-27 and in blocks with 7 compared to the Stormy Petrels 3.
Set one was all Berry, going up 7-3 very quickly which included three kills from top attacker, Maddie Whitehead and a block from the leader
Blakely Barnes. The young faces took control and led the team to a victory. The Vikings continued to go on scoring runs in the first set as Oglethorpe was unable to combat anything. Berry took the first set 25-13.
The same set score stood at 25-13 for set two, with the Vikings still continuing to dominate. Scoring in spurts and holding the Petrels under scoring more than two points in a row, Berry battled and found another big set to go up 2-0.
Oglethorpe finally put up a fight in the third with a back-and-forth battle until a kill from
Lura Underwood began a 6-0 run at 17-15, and pushing it to 22-15. After that, the Vikings had smooth sailings finalizing the game and completing the sweep.
Berry will return to action at home on Saturday to take on Rhodes College at 12:00 PM ET.
