No.10 Berry Volleyball opened the Asics Invitational in Huntingdon, Pa. with a loss to host, No.1-ranked Juniata in three sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 on Friday night.
The Vikings (2-2) kept a tight score early on in the first set only trailing by one to two points, but a four point unanswered run for Juniata set them up to cruise for the first set win of 25-16. The second set played out much like the first, but in the end the Vikings couldn't find an answer for the Eagles offense.
Juniata took control of the third and final set right out of the gate bringing Berry to a 1-6 deficit to crawl back from. The Vikings put up 22 kills on the night and were held to a .092 hitting percentage. Berry bested Juniata in blocks, putting up five as opposed to the Eagles two.
Jazzy Innis led the team with six kills,
Lura Underwood recorded five. Lindsay MacDiarmid ended the night with 14 assists.
The Vikings continue their run in the Asics Invitational on Saturday, taking on Carnegie Mellon University at 11 a.m. and concluding the tournament facing Christopher Newport University at 1:30 p.m.
