The No.13-ranked Berry Vikings (9-3, 3-0 SAA) defeated Southern Athletic Association foe Centre College in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18) on Sunday in Danville, Ky.
Jazzy Innis,
Bella Boston, and
Lura Underwood all recorded double digit kills.
Â
The Vikings stayed a couple steps ahead of the Colonels throughout the first set, but it was a four-point run towards the end that sent Centre to set point, eventually earning the victory. But that was all Berry gave them as the next three sets the Vikings were brought back to life through the offense.
Â
The Colonels had a late lead on Berry in the second set 18-15. But thanks to three kills and a few attack errors from Centre, the Vikings were right back in the lead 20-18. Two kills from Underwood sealed the deal for her team. Berry put down 15 kills in the second set.
Â
Berry overwhelmed Centre in the third set taking all the momentum for themselves. The Vikings took advantage of key mistakes from the Colonels, extending their lead to far for any comeback. Boston laid down four consecutive kills in the last four plays of the set.
Â
Boston and Innis combined for the nine of 12 kills in the fourth set that clinched the seventh straight win for the Vikings, and third conference game win of the season.
Â
Boston set a new career high for kills in a single match with 16. Innis and Underwood double-doubled each recording 13 digs.
Â
The Vikings will return home for the first time this season on Saturday facing Millsaps at 12 p.m. and Emory at 6 p.m.
