MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry's women's tennis team will enter the 2023 Southern Athletic Association Championships as the No. 4 seed, with the first match for the Vikings scheduled for 9:15 a.m. EDT in Chattanooga, Tenn., at The Champions Club.
The Vikings will take on No. 5-seeded Millsaps in the quarterfinals of the tournament. In the earlier meeting between the two schools, back on Apr. 2 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, the Vikings cruised to a 9-0 win over the Majors. The weekend sweep was part of a larger weekend for the Vikings that saw them also defeat Birmingham-Southern, 8-1. Following that weekend's action,
Juliana Mascagni was named SAA Singles Player fo the Week, while Mascagni and
Lauren Masteller were named SAA Doubles Pair of the Week.
Berry earned a win in its last SAA contest, defeating Hendrix 6-3 to clinch a winning record in SAA play for the season. Mascagni and Masteller won at doubles, but the Vikings trailed 2-1 entering singles play. Still, Mascagni, Masteller,
Lacey Craig,
Sakura Manning, and
Angelle Thornton each won at singles to deliver the victory to Berry.
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal will face the winner of a quarterfinal between No. 1 Sewanee and No. 8 Hendrix. The semifinals are slated for 9:00 a.m. EDT Saturday.
