Vikings Start Series with Clutch Win

Berry baseball's bats took control of the first game of the series as they strung across 13 hits against Southern Athletic Association opponent Centre College to earn an 8-4 win Friday afternoon on the road in Danville, Ky.

The Vikings got the bats started in the second inning as Andrew Pendleton led off with a double to left field followed by a single from Wesley Maxey. A sacrifice fly from John D'Amelio and Joey Garcia's infield hit both came with an RBI, bringing the score to 2-0 at the end of the second.

Berry added on another run in the third as Pendleton brought in Nick Brunswick after he doubled to center. Centre responded with a run to bring the score to 3-1.

Levi Cloud had a two-run homer in the fourth to keep the runs rolling and put the Vikings up by four. Centre kept chipping away, scoring another two runs to make the score 5-3.

In the fifth, the Vikings brought another two runs across as Maxey led off with a single and was brought home by a double from D'Amelio. Cloud then had an RBI single to take the lead up to 7-3. Centre brought across another run, as the Colonels tried to keep up with the Vikings' offense.

In the top of the ninth, Garrett Lang made his way around the bases off of a single by Brunswick and a run-scoring wild pitch to add an insurance run. Tyler Cassidy worked a scoreless ninth after three shutout innings of relief from Koby Dunn to finish off the 8-4 win.

Patrick O'Rouke started on the mound for the Vikings and recorded another win (5-1), pitching five innings and only allowing four runs.

Centre out-hit the Vikings 15-13, but the Colonels left a dozen men on base, compared to just six for Berry.

The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow to close out the regular season at Centre with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
