Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | by Jason Hanes

Vikings Drop Season Opener to No. 2 Salisbury

Playing one of the best teams in all of NCAA D-III, Berry's men's lacrosse team rallied to trail by just four in the second half, but Salisbury pulled away for a 20-6 victory Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

The Vikings (0-1) were held scoreless for the opening quarter as the Seagulls jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes. Ethan Perlakowski scored the first goal of the season for the Vikings off a feed from Joey Cuthbert, and the Vikings cut the deficit down to five. Salisbury would stretch the lead back up to seven, 8-1, but back-to-back goals by Tyler Banfield and Davis Cooke pulled BC back within five, 8-3. After a Salisbury tally, Perlakowski added another goal to make it 9-4 before a Salisbury goal made it 10-4 after 30 minutes.

Berry came out with renewed spirit to start the second half. Michael McKenzie scored just over a minute into the third quarter, then Perlakowski completed the hat trick 50 seconds later to make it 10-6 with 13:06 left in the period. That would be as close as the Vikings would get, as Salisbury (1-0) went on a 10-0 run over the final 26:44 to close out the game.

Nick English was solid on faceoffs, winning 18-of-30. English also had a game-high 12 ground balls. Michael Beirne had two assists for Berry. Rob Maraski had 14 saves in the cage for BC.

Berry will be idle until Feb. 15 when it opens up Valhalla Stadium for 2023 with a contest against LaGrange. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
