Box Score Berry's baseball team put up a strong rally against No. 18 Denison but eventually fell 6-5 at the D3 Baseball Showcase in Kannapolis, N.C., Friday night.

The Vikings trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the fourth but quickly took the lead. With runners on the corners, Wesley Maxey doubled down the line into left, plating the tying run. One batter later, Ronnie Caricofe's RBI would make it 2-1.

Denison would tie the game in the fifth, then take a 6-2 lead with a bases loaded triple, followed by a double, one inning later. Down four entering the final three innings, the Vikings would try to mound a rally. A wild throw on a Riley Uhls grounder to third would turn into a three-base error, bringing home a run and making it 6-3. Levi Cloud would double down the line in right one batter later to bring in Uhls and make it 6-4. Later, with Cloud on third, Zachary Hardee hit a slow bouncer between the mound and first. Cloud would sprint home, colliding with the catcher as the Denison man tried to catch the off-target throw. Cloud would get to the plate safely, making it 6-5.

That would be as close as the Vikings would get for the rest of the game as the Big Red (1-0) would keep the Vikings at bay for the rest of the contest.

Berry is back in action against Susquehanna Saturday afternoon.
