Vikings Rally but Fall in Extras

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.— Berry's baseball team fell to the Maryville Scots, 8-6, in extra innings Tuesday afternoon at William R. Bowdoin field.

In the eighth with the Vikings trailing by three, Riley Uhls hit a double down the left field line to start a Vikings on a two out rally. John D'Amelio reached first on an error scoring Uhls tightening the deficit to two, while Blake Hyman singled to center to bring runners to first and second. Levi Cloud then singled to left field to load the bases. Wesley Maxey drew a walk bringing in D'Amelio, and making the score to 6-5.

Tyler Cassidy had a huge inning for the Vikings on the mound as he came in and struck out the last two batters to end the top of the ninth, with the Scots leaving two on base to give BC a chance to come back and take the win.

Nick Brunswick started the ninth with a single to right field to bring the momentum to the Vikings. Zac Warren came in to pinch hit and put down a bunt for a hit to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a wild pitch, both runners advanced to put two runners in scoring position. Uhls drove in the tying run with a sac fly to right field for the Vikings to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth sending the game into extras.

The Scots brought across two runs in the tenth to bring the score to 8-6.

Ronnie Caricofe brought in some hope for the Vikings with two outs as he singled through the left side. John Poist and Nick Brunswick then walked to load the bases, but BC was unable to score the tying run, ending the game.

The Vikings left 13 runners on base. Between the two teams, runs were scored in nine of the 10 innings.

Brunswick, Zachary Hardee, and Andrew Pendleton all recorded two hits.

The Vikings will be on the road in Kannapolis, N.C., Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Marietta College as part of the D3 College Showcase.
